CW Roelle

I began drawing with wire in 1997 when, as a student at The Maryland Institute College of Art, I became frustrated with the separation between my hand and the line I was making on paper. I wanted to hold the line in my hands and bend it with my fingers. I use dark annealed steel wire and a pair of pliers. When a piece is finished I prime it and paint it with a gloss enamel spray paint.  I still do pencil drawings though not as often. My approach to working on paper is similar to how I make an image with wire in that I outline all of the shapes that make up an object or image, with the work on paper I just go a step further and shade in the outlined shapes.
